Inside Straight plot
"A story of live, women, power, money!"
San Francisco, 1870. Looking back, we see, among other things, that Rip MacCool, who has learned that money means power, arrives in San Francisco at a time when the city is in financial trouble. Rip starts speculating with other people's money and he soon manages to cheat the banker Ada Stritch from her hotel. Rip falls in love with two women: the red-haired and ambitious Lily Douvane, who undresses him financially, but also gives birth to a son, and Zoe Carnot, his son's caretaker, who dies giving birth to his second child. As a result, Rip finds himself in a mental and financial crisis, but he manages to put himself back together. In the present, we see that it looks like Rip could take over Ada Stritch's bank and get his hands on financing for San Francisco.
