Down Rio Grande Way plot
America, ca. 1850. Congress is about to decide whether the state of Texas will become part of the United States. Colonel Baldridge and Judge Henderson want to keep Texas independent, and they enlist Vandall and his gang to stir up unrest among the ranchers. The Texas Rangers send Steve Martin to put things in order. Steve talks to ranchers who want to hunt Vandall and his gang, but Steve realizes that Vandall must have patrons, and he wants to track them down.
