After robbing a stagecoach and receiving a $1,000 reward, wounded outlaw Monte Jarrad takes refuge on the ranch of his attractive childhood friend Cherry de Longpre. When the clumsy and naive Melody Jones drives into the town of Payneville with his old friend George Fury, he is mistaken for the wanted Monte Jarrad because of the initials "MJ" on his saddle. Cherry lures the unsuspecting Melody to her ranch to use him as bait. Melody must ride Monte's saddle north so her friend Monte can escape south. But Cherry didn't count on Melody falling in love with her.
