Aatami Korpi, the ex-soldier who refuses to die, returns to the house where his family was brutally murdered during the war. It often pushes its luck—not to mention its protagonist—so far that this sequel almost becomes a self-conscious parody of its predecessor's already far-fetched realism. Yet, "Sisu: Road to Vengeance" somehow stubbornly sticks to its principles and core structure, recognizes its value and strength in visual presentation, and tells a simplistic yet lavishly action-packed story without using many words or losing its heart. The result is a genuinely entertaining ride.
I got to see it tonight in the cinema. It got a bit cartoonish at times, but that didn't dampen the fun at all. It even adds a layer of humor to a film that takes itself very seriously, so even a simple mousetrap will bring a good chuckle. It's a success and builds nicely on its predecessor. A solid 7/10 from me.

A strong action sequel from director Jalmari Helander, who with this second chapter manages to enhance everything the previous installment lacked. The balance between humor and action is considerably more stable, Jorma Tommila's lead role is more engaging, and the finale, in particular, is deeply impressive thanks to a relentless pace and plenty of creative ways in which the antagonist is defeated. You'll have to tolerate a few completely off-kilter moments, but it's good that Helander picks up the pace and spends less time on pointless details. It all just works a bit better, especially with a lot of English-speaking actors desperately trying to imitate a foreign accent. With this improvement, a third installment is more than welcome.

Just like the first film, a deliciously raw, energetic action film with a big, bold twist. There's hardly any story, but that's to be expected in this genre. The execution is similar to the first. After a very brief buildup, the violence erupts. This time, too, there's plenty of brutal violence depicted in a cartoonish style, so you can switch off your brain and enjoy. Lead actor Tommila, once again, didn't have to memorize many lines. 3.5

Yay, Aatami Korpi is back. And how! This film throws every trace of realism out the window, but that's precisely what makes it so entertaining.
Sisu 2 is a fast-paced, atmospheric action film bursting with brutal violence, with the occasional touch of dry humor. The visual style is paramount, realism is secondary, and that's precisely what makes this film so powerful. Director Jalmari Helander once again creates a distinct atmosphere, with almost every scene resembling a graphic novel.
Korpi remains the silent, indestructible icon we know from the first installment. The action escalates merrily from one absurd moment to the next, and even though you know beforehand that the laws of physics don't apply here, it remains irresistibly captivating.
In short: not a film for those looking for realism, but a treat for those who love pure, stylized action cinema. Thoroughly enjoyed it again.
