Petriti, a poor boy, gets a job as a cleaner at the fascist Ministry of the Interior during the occupation of Albania. He meets Gjergji, an illegal alien, who asks him to reveal secrets. Petriti sees the cruelty of the regime and wants to leave, but Gjergji convinces him to continue. After Gjergji's murder, Petriti teams up with the Tirana group to steal the ministry's most important archive.
