Elizabeth (Donna Mills) and James (James Read) were a perfect couple. An ambitious and successful young journalist and a rising star in the political firmament. Idealistic, charismatic and passionate. But under pressure from Elloit (William Devane), James' unscrupulous chief adviser and a former CIA agent, they must end their relationship so James can marry a more "appropriate" girl. Eight years later, Senator James is running for president. Not much has survived of his earlier ideals. Elizabeth has also changed. She is a single mother and hosts a high-profile TV show in Los Angeles. The former lovers meet in these TV studios. Elloit fears Elizabeth will expose her past relationship with James and undermine his path to the presidency. He therefore decides to permanently erase all traces of the relationship between Elizabeth and James. One of those tracks is Elizabeth's son.
