Mutterglück plot

The successful conductor Julia cherishes a desire to have a child with her partner Georg. The fertility doctor Vilfort offers them an experimental treatment after which Julia, to her great joy, becomes pregnant. However, the birth does not go as planned and the parents are separated from their baby for a while. When they are reunited, Julia behaves distantly and their child gradually puts her marriage to Georg under great pressure.

Thanks to IVF, Julia [Marie Leuenberger] and Georg [Hans Löw]'s dream of having a child is finally fulfilled. Immediately after the birth, their child is moved to another room without explanation. A day later, the baby returns, but with less hair and considerably smaller than ultrasound scans had shown. That Julia initially blames her significant doubts on her emotional state is understandable. Georg should have known better, of course, but even the extremely inappropriate behavior of Dr. Vilfort [Claes Bang] and midwife Gerlinde [Julia Franz Richter] doesn't set off any alarm bells for him! Moder has thoroughly studied Rosemary's Baby and does her best to create an oppressive atmosphere. Leuenberg also does a fine job as the confused mother, but the script is completely unbelievable, and the denouement, in particular, is ludicrous.
