Reasonable genre film. The story is not very interesting and has several plot holes. In itself not a bad thing with this genre because what matters is the action. And there is more than enough of that. The pace is good and one action scene follows the other. They are also reasonably diverse, some fighting, some shooting and a bit of tearing through the streets and that also at a reasonable level. The film looks neat. The biggest downside is the cast. Adkins is still okay, but the female leads play bad roles. Nice action film but the story and cast really bring the film down. 2.0/2.5

A solidly staged spy thriller with trivial characters that is based on a simple constellation of good and bad. The plot is not very sensational. The action scenes are good. Scott Adkins is the name of the hero. Appeared in many films, but did not ring a bell for me.

Legacy of Lies is a reasonable film. The action scenes are quite small-scale but with an eye for detail and quite brutal. The story is quite standard and reminded me very much of a rip-off of Taken (2008). Scott Adkins looks physically fit, has a few nice fight scenes and just does a good job as a typical action hero.

The locations are mostly gray, dingy, dark and impersonal. The story takes place in many barren industrial areas and abandoned buildings. A choice that seems to have been dictated by a limited budget. The film gets away with it because part of it is set in Ukraine. A country that (as we know) consists of industrial areas and ruins. This way, the choice of locations can be justified to some extent. Moreover, the gray locations create a cold and gloomy atmosphere that fits the story.

The plot twists and developments sometimes surprise and sometimes not. The predictability is there, but it moves at an acceptable level. The pace of the film is high, although the film loses momentum towards the finale. The showdown is disappointing. The score is not unpleasant in itself, but could have been provided with a bit more variation. It started to get on my nerves.

The film is directed and written by a Dutchman, by the way. His name is Adrian Bol. It's strange to suddenly be allowed to make a big film almost out of nowhere. Bol hasn't really produced much impressive material up until now. And with this film that status doesn't change as far as I'm concerned.

Tiring action thriller with a number of effective fights, but also a rather slow pace and few interesting plot angles. Director Adrian Bol does little to provide Legacy of Lies with a grain of originality, which only makes the unnecessarily serious tone weigh more heavily on the viewer's ability to concentrate. Scott Adkins is nevertheless always suitable for a number of well-performed action scenes and uses his fighting techniques excellently to suppress his opponents, which makes it an extra shame that Bol uses his qualities very little. The camera work is modern and the gray design is striking, but Legacy of Lies is nevertheless boring genre work that keeps parking its cars in all too familiar parking spaces.
