Flightplan plot

"If someone took everything you live for... how far would you go to get it back?"

The young widow Kyle Prat (Jodie Foster) loses her six-year-old daughter Julia during a plane trip from Berlin to New York. The girl seems to have disappeared without a trace and Kyle's frustration only grows when no one seems to believe her. None of the other passengers or crew saw Kyle come aboard with Julia. Pilot Rich (Sean Bean) and cop Carson (Peter Sarsgaard) want to believe her, but everything points to Kyle coming aboard alone. Due to the doubt and paranoia of everyone around her, Kyle is all alone.

The same film in which especially the first hour was the strongest. Bizarre plot also in which a mother loses her daughter on a plane. And even if it's a big plane, you don't think it's possible, do you? Flightplan gives a claustrophobic effect that is directly proportional to the tension. Foster and Bean are also doing more than decent, which makes the film look very nice.

After a while I started to doubt myself and waited for some flashback on the plane without a girl. I was with the mental disorder for a while. The film does have some plot holes here and there, but that doesn't have to ruin the film so much. It remains unrealistic that no one has actually seen the girl. However, they moved back so they could sleep stretched out. The hostage takers, on the other hand, could not foresee this either, the same by the way when checking in. Bit weird though.

The ending was less successful. Messy and fast. Simple too. The build-up of the entire film was destroyed. It's a shame really, because this movie definitely had the potential. All in all, a decent enough.

Reasonable thriller with a nice suspense, but gradually diminishes. Typically such a film where you are waiting for the twist, the question is what form it will come in. That in itself is nicely done (not so much that the marshall is the hijacker, but that Foster takes on the role of hijacker after he wants to get off the plane). By the way, I don't think Carson was very well cast for it, because he already has a suspicious head from the first time he comes on the screen. Furthermore, it is of course a bit far-fetched, there are enough plot holes and we have to assume that if you lose your child, even a nerdy "rocket scientist" will behave like a kind of power bitch. Few actors frown as intensely as Foster. And come on, it's a good role. Great as a snack.

Flightplan is a solid genre film that is well put together in terms of tension and sensation. In order to be able to implement the principle of the missing daughter, I find choices in it a bit bland and not very intelligent. Nevertheless, a neat film.
