Borgman plot

Intriguing film, but also a film where I was regularly scratching my head about what was going on, and above all, why. It's a dark story about an intruder who slowly squeezes into a (annoying) nouveau-riche family, and when a cancerous tumor eventually splits family apart with manipulation, murder and manslaughter. The nature of intruder Borgman remains unclear. - that he certainly does not appear to be a normal person, but a kind of demon or something similar slightly supernatural is quickly clear. Although there may also be an allegory about suburbia or deep-seated antipathy behind this, I don't know.

I see that the film has been compared to Parasite a number of times, and the similarities are certainly there - even in specific aspects such as the look of the house and garden alone. In Parasite of course the supernatural aspects are missing. But although the film was often fascinating, I also had my reservations from time to time. Yes, that Borgman in some way manipulates the subconscious and the dream world of people is clear, but the plot did contain a lot of coincidences and illogical motives, and the explanation that Borgman did it like that not telepathically I find very easy. It kind of detracted from the movie in my opinion. Still an interesting film and an incentive to watch more of Van Warmerdam.

Very peculiar film this Borgman. Also a film in which I had a hard time finding or explaining the motives of the protagonists. It also remains unclear to me why people are attacking this family because Camiel had previously also rang the bell elsewhere. It's a movie where you can break your head to place the events and where you can ask your questions about "why not" and "that".

Certain events may be labeled as comical, but they were raw and hard at the same time. It was of course effective to use concrete, after all, this sinks easily ...
Borgman is a film that stays with you in its setting of absurdism and psychological mindf*cks. Because the latter also creates an unusual atmosphere with the dogs, dreams, delusions and manipulation.

Borgman is not a film with ready-made answers or a nice closing feeling. The feeling of WTF or discomfort predominates in the credits. And yet I couldn't suppress a monkellach. A perfect role for Jan Bijvoet by the way, who can easily portray a deranged character. It still floats towards 4.0 *, but it still gnaws a bit. That was probably the intent of the film...

Van Warmerdam has now been officially canonized. Everything is right in this movie. There was the presence of Lynchian influences with the dark and dark soundscape next to the jazz with the phrasing of Thelonious Monk that is listened to without wanting to know the why of every attack. Lets call this ...art.
