Cool! Stimulates the imagination and leaves enough room to interpret aspects of the story yourself. I appreciate the intimate beginning that turns into a disaster movie. Very intriguing concept too. I haven't seen other parts, but I'm interested in them now.

Hammer goes on a sci-fi tour, and I actually quite liked it. During work at Hobbs End underground station, a number of mysterious artifacts are unearthed, which turn out to be of alien origin, and which appear to have a link to a number of prehistoric skulls. I thought the story about the aliens who helped shape humans and are now exerting their influence again was so-so, but the mysterious atmosphere and nice old-school British Hammer look make this a nice viewing experience. The scenes towards the end with loose mass hysteria also come across very well. Nice suprice.

A gamble at the thrift store, especially because of the art design on the inlay because it suggests that you are dealing with a real cult product, and it turns out to be part of a trilogy when you get home, and unfortunately not the best of the three. I went on Sunday evening hoping for something special, and that's what I got, but it wasn't all that great.

The film cannot be denied a certain fluidity. Within minutes the bomb squad is on site to clear away what appears to be a V-weapon. They wish! Because it soon becomes apparent that something is not quite right about this thing. It is special that that one scientist pulls a skull out of the derriere and, walking away, while the fossil is covered in mud, knows how many hundreds of years old the skull is. It is an ease that is easy to digest, partly due to the light and easy atmosphere.

A downside is that there are no developments. What is it? What's going to happen? Where does the film want to go? And when does the horror element start? It will take a long time before the potential of the thing found erupts into a War of the Worlds-like pandemic. The lead-up to it is far too long and seriously detracts from this film. The conclusion is that much more could have been achieved because the whole thing radiates a certain solidity and quality, and of course the creatures themselves in the vessel are pure cult. Quartermass and the Pitt is mainly nice for once, but nothing more than that.
