"There's nothing sadder than a puppet without a ghost."
Ghost in the Shell follows a unique hybrid cyborg, known as the Major, who leads the Task Force Section 9 police unit whose mission is to take out the most dangerous criminals and extremists. They are then confronted by an enemy who is targeting and trying to destroy Hanka Robotic's cyber technology.

Film that gets more attention than it deserves was not easy for me. Looked good visually (also allowed with this budget), technically it will all be correct, but otherwise?...... What a gloomy story, full of emotion- and blank (half) people, fight scenes reasonable but too much repetition and therefore not too special, worst of all: a story of nothing. Comparisons with groundbreaking toppers such as Blade Runner, Robocop and The Matrix don't really make sense. Those movies had a director with a vision, men who had something to say. Sanders will never reach that status, his Ghost in the Shell just keeps bubbling on.... If Scarlett hadn't been present, despite the beautiful pictures, this would have remained a cult film for a very limited audience, and that is also what belongs to the makers.

The anime was more of "what is life?" and this is more of "where am I from?".
Anime is a bit more floaty and certainly a lot more pretentious. This story was clear but also certainly interesting. The scene with her mother was beautiful in its simplicity.
I had a great time, saw a lot of recognition coming along from the original, but I see it as a different story, given the different premise.
