What low numbers. This isn't a good movie when it comes to story and drama, a bit messy at times, unnecessarily many minor characters to make it seem a bit complicated (but just a simple 'government betrayal') and a villain that lives up to all the clichés as Owen does. it's fine. And a lot more could have been gained from the consequences if you see your clone (or original).

But this is not such a film, this is first and foremost a flashy action film that is remarkably clear and well shot, has enough momentum, some beautiful locations and a lead role by Smith that is perfect for this kind of role. A little drama and a lot of flair. Visually sometimes also very nicely done and some nice ideas in terms of shots (that train shot stands out of course) and locations. I would call this an empty movie, but very well put together and excellent as popcorn entertainment. 3.5*.

Good action.

Unfortunately, the rest of the film isn't quite on the same level. The plot is rather boring, the sci-fi elements are not very well developed and the drama that Lee tries to put in it also works against the film. Also thought it was a rather strange choice of film for Lee.

But there is absolutely nothing wrong with the action. The shop that gets smashed to pieces at the end is great, the chase in Mexico takes it up a notch. And so there are a handful of great action scenes, which time and again manage to sharpen the attention.

I also thought the CG for the younger version of Smith was quite okay. Certainly not perfect, but it does the job and is at least as good as the alternatives. But the hype around it is a bit exaggerated. Furthermore, it lasts just a little too long and the ending also manages to go on a little too long, but it is an amusing blockbuster. Especially considering he comes from Lee, not really something he can handle normally.

3.0*
