Der Tunnel plot
Mac Allen, an idealistic engineer, wants to build a tunnel at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, connecting America to Europe. When the work schedule is disrupted and the gigantic project is delayed for years, everything seems to spiral into a fiasco and Allen is reviled around the world. After 26 years, the tunnel is finally ready, but the project will be completely obsolete by then, because there are now planes that can cross the ocean in a few hours.
