Algol - Tragödie der Macht plot

Robert Herne (Emil Jannings) is a coal mine worker. While working, he discovers an inhabitant of the planet Algol (John Gottowt). This alien gives him a machine that can serve as an unlimited source of energy. Herne uses this machine to build a power plant. Thanks to the device, Herne manages to acquire so much money that he becomes one of the most powerful people on earth. But power corrupts him and he loses sight of all the people he once held dear.
