Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction plot

In the fairytale kingdom of Babenhausen, Cazotte, a young and self-proclaimed love des des expert, is hired by the scheming Grand Duchess to help her find an heir. While searching for a suitable future princess, Cazotte teaches the shy and introverted crown prince the art of seduction and lovemaking. But their plan soon goes awry when an illegitimate heir is conceived and the royal family is forced to seek refuge in Rosenbad Castle. Here, while rivals within the royal family work on their plan, Cazotte himself falls in love with Ehrengard, the bridesmaid, and learns along the way that he's not really an expert in love at all.

Matige film waarin een schilder een afspraak met een hertogin over de troonopvolging. Het geheel heeft veel weg van een luchtigere versie van Dangerous Liaisons. De ontwikkelingen volgen elkaar best snel op. En het ziet er allemaal goed uit met mooie locaties en kostuums. Echter kwamen de personages nogal irritant over. Net geen 3.0 sterren.

Mediocre film in which a painter makes an appointment with a duchess about the succession to the throne. The whole thing resembles a lighter version of Dangerous Liaisons. Developments follow each other quite quickly. And it all looks good with beautiful locations and costumes. However, the characters came across as rather annoying. Just under 3.0 stars.

De titel is enigszins misleidend. Deze romantische komedie, verpakt als kostuumdrama, is veeleer een film over intriges aan het hof dan over de verleidingskunsten van een portretschilder, want die komen nauwelijks uit de verf. In vergelijking met zijn andere werken een zwakke film van de anders zo degelijke regisseur Bille August.
