Eat a Bowl of Tea plot
"A taste of life in America."
The War Brides Act of 1946 allowed the arrival of Chinese women to the immigrant community in New York's Chinatown, which had hitherto been mainly populated by male bachelors. Wah Gay therefore sends his son Ben Loy back to their native village to marry Mei Oi, the daughter of his best friend. It's love at first sight. When the couple returns to New York, Ben becomes the manager of a busy restaurant. The pressure at work and the pressure from the grandfathers to raise grandchildren makes Ben impotent. At her wits' end, Mei finds Oi a lover. If this rumor spreads, it will be a crisis for both grandfathers.
