The Green Scarf plot
Solange Vauthier is the wife of the deaf-mute and blind British author Jacques, who is accused of murder. Lawyer Maitre Deliot is asked by Jacques' mother to take over her son's defense after two more brilliant lawyers consider this murder case hopeless. Deliot visits Jacques in prison and he finds him suspicious and violent, but nevertheless believes that he is innocent and decides to take over the case. Deliot discovers in France that the murdered man, John Bell, had a love affair with Jacques' wife Solange and that there was a green scarf next to the corpse.
