Agent Pete Garland is fired by singer Monica Barrett after he lands her a new radio contract. She thinks her lawyer Teddy Leeds is a better fit for her social status. To get revenge, Pete wants to make unknown singer Ruth Allison a star. Pete is unaware that she is an ex-con and has recently been released on bail.
