Hanan plot
The beginning takes place around a temple in the village of Rampur. Pagla works at that temple as a jack-of-all-trades, and he doesn't seem to have them all sorted out. One day the virgin Bhagwati is taken to the temple; she is sacrificed by a villager who lost his wife to suicide. That woman before her death cursed a goddess and for fear of the wrath of the goddess a virgin must be sacrificed. The somewhat retarded Pagla is a gifted drummer. His drumming has a remarkable effect on Bhagwati: she becomes ecstatic, a god seems to possess her, and she also receives divine gifts. She can make wishes come true. The villagers panic, for they fear the wrath of the gods more than ever. Pagla and Bhagwati move to the city where their gifts are exploited by shady entrepreneurs.
