Studio work.

Traveling to Scotland was clearly not an option, but the sets are quite nice. Not that it all looks very realistic, but you often have to look twice to see where the backgrounds start.

The accent of the villagers is less successful, Americans try to speak Scottish... it didn't go very smoothly. Otherwise a simple story, with a rather unexpectedly happy ending, fortunately for Kelly and fans, another fifteen minutes are added and everything turns out fine.

Furthermore, my original criticism regarding these types of old musicals still stands. Not so bad that I give it 0.5*, the entire atmosphere is a bit too happy and cozy for that, but the music and dances don't really appeal to me. And then there isn't much left.

1.0*

A very nice unpretentious fantasy musical by the golden duo Minelli & Freed. Nice musical numbers and (Scottish) dances in which Gene Kelly also comes to do his thing. The entire premise of the film - a village that lives once every 100 years and disappears further from the face of the earth - reminded me of a similar story that can be read in Niels Holgersson by Selma Lagerlof, or for those who have seen the series, book that dates back to 1906.
Brigadoon presents the viewer with unadulterated Hollywood romance, regarding the relationship between Kelly and Cyd Charysse. And I felt completely sucked into the dream.
A very important flavor maker in this film is Van Johnson, and the dry humor assigned to him by the script. Really delicious, and is a great counterbalance to a possible sugar overdose. Also funny, but not intentional, the moment Harry Beaton meets his end, they decide to keep his death quiet so as not to spoil the fun of the wedding that is going on at that moment, that unbearable lightness of existence anyway.

Keep your wits about you and enjoy this film!

very charming and romantic fairy tale performed as a musical with quite nice songs.
Tommy and Jeff are on holiday in Scotland and get lost when they suddenly discover a village that is not on the map.
The inhabitants seem to live 200 years back in time, Tommy quickly feels at home in the village, especially when he falls in love with Fiona, one of the beautiful women in the village.
He will have to make a decision quickly if he wants to stay and continue his modern life in New York
say goodbye for good or back to the real cold life in modern times.
The romanticization of the old days versus the cold aloofness of today, mixed with a romantic love story is more or less the main theme of the film, the scene in which he is back in New York and his future fiancée keeps talking. about herself should emphasize the coldness of the modern woman against the warm personality of Fiona.

Of course this is romanticized, but nevertheless effectively executed, and perhaps there is even a grain of truth in it.
Still, the story lacks depth and I had the feeling that much more could have been done with this theme, which is a shame.
It's also a shame that Jeff's story is more or less cut short after his own romantic failure
Nevertheless, a successful romantic story with a happy ending
