A missed opportunity this, although nowhere really annoying. Nicolas Cage as a taciturn loner who has to compete in an abandoned amusement park against animatronic dolls that seem to have walked away from Peter Jackson's Meet The Feebles unfortunately sounds more fun than it actually is. Cage plays quite subdued, the rest of the cast is meaningless and the bloody situations are poorly portrayed. This fact begs for a completely twisted approach, something that director Kevin Lewis unfortunately has no idea.

Hilarious.
A film that sometimes seems to be applying for cult status a little too emphatically, but at other times also just does its own thing, which probably offends cult fans. I did appreciate it.
Especially the way Lewis, around his budget, tries to get fun out of every element. The horrible but hilarious songs, the designs of the puppets, some dry/weird humor ala Hosking sometimes (Cage putting on a clean shirt more and more), some completely random things (like the pinball scenes), the fights with the animatronics ...
A film that continues to surprise and comes out quite original, but will probably have some difficulty finding fans of this type of work, because it is not received so positively, not even by the people you would normally expect it to be. Don't worry, I had a good laugh about it.

What a wonderful pulp movie! Nicolas Cage is clearly back and has been choosing better productions in recent years, albeit smaller budget films. Especially the productions from 2012 to 2016 were often sadly bad. He has meanwhile turned his back on the blockbusters for the time being. But with movies like Mandy (2018) and Color Out of Space (2019), Cage is back on the positive track. Just like these films, Willy's Wonderland is also special. Now for this kind of work you have to be able to appreciate the nonsense. A typical love or hate movie. Cage says nothing throughout the film and as a viewer you are curious what the reason is. Also his behaviors during brushing : those caffeine drinks, playing on the pinball machine ….. all remain strange things that are not explained. The horror is playful and humorous. Nice and bloody and over the top with those dolls. The scenes with the monkey, the weasel and the chameleon that is supposedly different from the other killer dolls are hilarious. In addition, a beautiful face Liv ( Emily Tosta ) who gradually makes her way through the killer dolls like a sexy chick. It's your birthday… delicious nonsense ! 7.5/10
