The Vampire Lovers plot

"An erotic nightmare of tormented lusts that throb in headless, undead bodies!"

Marcilla Karnstein returns from time to time from her dead sleep, each time under a different name, like Carmilla, or like now, Mircalla. With her vampire powers, she spreads terror in a village. General Von Spielsdorf loses his daughter to Mircalla and vows revenge. He gets help from vampire-killer Baron Hartog and the Doctor. They will eventually kill this vampire, but not before it kills a group of victims.

A beautiful film in which they have paid attention to the costumes and decors to bring the style of that time to life. A fine film in which Ingrid Pitt plays the vampire in a sensual way. Her beauty is used almost to the maximum. Also that of Madeline Smith and she is already a picture in this film (in my opinion the most beautiful of the female characters).

But these women are not only drop dead gorgeous (pun intended), they also know how to play their roles well. This in addition to veterans like Peter Cushing, who got to go vampire hunting again. He also plays a solid character and I have little to complain about the rest of the cast.

A film that is especially visually very beautiful. Indeed a beautiful film for lovers of gothic horror films.

"Hammer house of horror"!

When I see this projected on the screen at the beginning of a movie, I am wide awake!

I was also wide awake for this film, as was my fellow viewer, who also knows that you are usually in good hands with this "production house".

You can see from the sets that the film is a bit older now, but that doesn't matter much for the story. These sets also have something that is not annoying, the flawless is missing and the craftsmanship of the makers can be seen in it. Also because we are a bit older than 20, we grew up with this, so no problem. Actors are fine at their job, although we did have the impression that the ladies were chosen not only for their acting skills but also for their bust. Real proud tops on the front torso were apparently one of the components of acceptance for the job.

For horror fans this film is a must and our rating is a 7+

Pitt, Steel and Smith give an act de presence in a barely concealed atmospheric Hammer production in the field of innocence and desire. Cushing, Cole and Finch are more than welcome. Beautiful costumes with typical 70's film style. Nudity became more prominent from the Flower power and here in a stylish daring way worked out. The 'natural beauty' of the actresses is striking. The whole of the acting is theatrical with ditto backgrounds. This could not be made anymore and perhaps that is a good thing, the period is therefore beautifully captured in a film from a glorious past of the Hammer studios
