A film with little build-up. The action starts quite quickly. And that is quite nice.

The action takes place in a large depot with many storage rooms and numerous corridors. Also in atmospheric darkness and with flickering lighting. A magnificent location.

A small group of people tries to stay out of the clutches of a monstrous creature. Suspenseful music, dynamic camerawork, and some cinematic tricks (a bit overused, admittedly) make for excellent horror entertainment. A deliciously creepy atmosphere unfolds.

And then it turns out to be difficult to maintain the level of horror and suspense throughout the entire film. The film does not escape repetition. And naturally, attention then wanes, and slight annoyance due to the setting in predictability undeniably rears its head.

Towards the end, the feeling increasingly creeps up on you that enough is enough. Not another kill. Not that music again. Not that jumpy camera effect again.

The acting is also starting to stand out due to the mediocrity of the performances. And the characters actually turn out to be quite annoying and hollow.

The final twist is disappointing. Quite simple and without any suspense. Rather easy. Moreover, no motive is explored. I would have liked to know the 'why'.

The beginning was a bit too standard, but after that it got quite exciting for me. Not really jump scares for me, but the creepy vibe was definitely there. I did see the ending coming, but I don't think everyone would expect that.

A straightforward film, no exaggerated fuss, just a mediocre film.

A meritorious, but overall somewhat weak horror thriller with a strong foundation. Director Matt Winn spends refreshingly little time on an introduction that, judging by the overall writing level, would likely have very little substance. The Hoarder takes its foot off the brake after about fifteen minutes, and although the tension is rarely effectively heightened, it still offers decent entertainment. Unfortunately, the location is rather neglected due to unexciting camerawork and a lack of focus, even though Winn could have done plenty with it. The Hoarder relies more on a few sparse visually striking moments and a strong ending; otherwise, it does not rise above mediocrity.
