In drizzly Ireland where time is spent kissing passionately in front of a younger brother or drinking in a bleak camper/caravan, it is up to Clive Barker's creation Rawhead Rex to liven things up a bit. Barker may not be happy with the end result, but 30 years later the way Pavlou gives the monster his on-screen time is refreshing! Where most monster flicks still try to hide a lot in darkness, Rex can be admired in all his glory from start to finish. With many memorable moments as a result!

The bit where Rawhead peed on the priest was funny!

Awesome movie and cool monster!

The acting wasn't always of a very high standard, but it really is an 80's movie and then it quickly becomes a beautiful movie!

Simple story and structured scenes!

The ending with all those 80's CGI lights made my heart beat faster too! What a feast for the eyes!

☆3.5

This 80's creature feature seen on KinoLorber's 4K release with DolbyVision, the Irish landscapes looked beautiful.

The story begins on a piece of farmland where we see a farmer pulling a large pole out of the ground. This pole served as a seal for an ancient demon that is buried there. In the meantime, a large thunderstorm comes, a lightning strike and Rawhead is reborn from the ground where the pole stood, who immediately starts a rampage in the Irish village. A group of men and the local police start hunting him down. The night scenes in the forest with the steam engines gave a wonderfully creepy atmosphere. The acting was reasonable, Hallenbeck (Dukes) was the only one that really stood out. I thought the best scene was at the police station right after the death of his son, a realistic image and strong acting by Hallenbeck.

Filmed on location in Ireland.

Peter Litten was the designer of the creature suit. Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) was the first choice for Rawhead, but he asked for too much money.

All in all a nice folklore horror.
