Unsavory get-togethers.

For lovers of 80s horror, you may enjoy this dark Finnish tale. In Pahanhautoja (Hatching), the so-called 'body horror' is once again highlighted. And how! With the brightest lights, because despite the dark scenario, everything takes place in full light. If you like gore, this is the place to be. There's not a dark corner in the dollhouse of an over-perfect family that also keeps up appearances.

And those appearances are overshadowed when the family's innocent daughter takes home an egg. The hatching goes smoothly, but it turns out that no nice or sweet bird has been born. The shuddering can begin. Yet it mainly remains with filth and less with tension. Sometimes there is even a slight smile at the family headed by an obsessively vlogging mother.

Yet a Scandinavian Alex van Warmerdam is missed here. Because the characters are not really interesting enough. They are interchangeable for the nasty animatronics and unsavory chats with the repulsive creature. Fortunately no CGI, although the human protagonists themselves are unfortunately too artificial. Probably consciously, but this makes it all a bit superficial.

What a high score here. This is a dragon of a movie, isn't it? Full of clichés and nowhere exciting... weird forced story.

Finnish horror film that is unique in its kind. Never seen anything like this before.

The decor is beautiful: a wealthy neighborhood with closets of houses, trimmed lawns, hip-high hedges... The house itself is a life-size doll's house with lots of pink and rooms full of floral wallpaper, say floral wallpaper.

The film starts strongly with the crow flying in, I already had a 4 in mind, but the film quickly lapses into something absurd. Now the average horror film tends to absurdism anyway, but I had hoped for a more realistic storyline that focuses more on the unhealthy bond between daughter and mother.

The mother, by the way, looked a bit like Rachel McAdams and that one from SBS6, what's her name again, who sometimes joins VI..? Who can always be so intelligent.

References to ET and Salem's Lot, among others.

Didn't find the film scary either, rather .. dirty.
