Jaws 2 is in any case the lesser of its predecessor and from what I remember from the following films it will not improve. In any case, it's nice to see Roy Scheider back as chief Brody. The mayor and co are also keeping the authenticity alive with the first cult film. However, this film is less successful than the first. A bit much of the same, although that is not so illogical. At times quite pulled by the hair.

It has become a real revenge of killer shark, even more than Spielberg's film. The shark literally chases boats or skiers. Not to mention the attack on the helicopter, quite ridiculous. Even when you keep in mind that the children have been floating around there for a while. Again the disbelief of the mayor and the population. As if the incident four years ago hadn't left deep enough wounds. The shark's own death was portrayed rather ugly. It was literally a machine sinking to the bottom. The sparks and fire were also exaggerated.

But all in all a pretty entertaining sequel. Not the same suspense or suspense as in the first movie. Not a roguish road trip with three men, but quite pleasant to follow. After all, Williams' music was also up to standard. Just enough!

Jaws invented the blockbuster, so to speak, and a sequel was inevitable. For Spielberg it wasn't an issue whether he would direct, for him Jaws was a closed chapter and he saw a sequel only as a cheap copy to make money. Roy Scheider is back, mainly for contractual reasons. Even if it is against his will, he still provides a bit of continuity. And you can say about Spielberg, but the sequel(s) of Jaws show that such a shark film is not easy to match.

In addition to the shark, Part 1 also had the tension between the three main actors. Here the shark's surprise is already somewhat gone, and for the human characters it's just Roy Scheider without a real opponent and a lot of teenagers who are quite interchangeable. John Williams is back for the music and the production is also in the same hands. And luckily no ugly CGI is used yet, so the scenes with the shark are not that bad.

On to Jaws 2, and knowing how good the first is, part 2 can only be disappointing. Of course the film was not great, but with adjusted expectations sweating on the elliptical trainer it was not that bad.

Amity, tourist attraction on the water, depending on tourism and water sports and once again that annoying sheriff about a shark swimming in front of the fog, you will be mayor of such a go. No, Jaws 2 offers little news and once again Chief Brody is the pariah. After all, it will be your job to watch over and protect people in such a situation. What Brody is apparently the only one who sees the danger, luckily so because otherwise it was a boring movie.

Striking is the lack of the characteristic tune, also the attacks that are of a different caliber as in the first film. It's all a bit more straightforward, that while Spielberg in the first still claims to be professional and builds up the atmosphere and tension beautifully, something that doesn't actually stay away completely. There is also the lack of colorful characters such as Quint.

The 'known recipe' is not bad, but the film lacks all the class that the first had. Other than that, it's all on the pale side in terms of characters. Roy Scheider is of course present and makes the best of it. J2 is nice for once, but that's about it.
