James Cagney is once again the villain through and through in this average film noir of decent quality. The plot may be a bit complex and the "super-fast romance" is also there, but the latter should not be surprising for the filmmaking of that time.
It's strange how humor is often hidden in the actions of that angry little man. I once saw a gala broadcast on the occasion of his "Lifetime Achievement Award" and strangely enough an excerpt was quoted from this "Kiss tomorrow goodby", namely the one in which he has a coffee pot thrown at his head and wonders in wonder where the sugar is. .
Besides James Cagney, the two ladies, Barbara Payton and Helena Carter, are good in their roles, as is good old Ward Bond, as the corrupt police inspector, also something that was often woven into films noirs.[/ spoiler]

Nice and complicated heist with crooks, corrupt cops, lawyers and all under the inspiring leadership of James Cagney who forces everyone to participate in his plan. Meanwhile, Cagney also becomes charmed by the daughter of the most powerful man in town. This is how we want it to be in noir. Nice! Even better than White Heat, although it has an even better finale.
