This film is criticized harshly here, but I found it to be a pleasant surprise and does a lot well, such as creating a fitting gothic atmosphere. A few horror buffs were once again misled by the genre, as this is more of a fantasy/drama film and definitely not a horror film.

The Bride is a retelling of The Bride of Frankenstein, and focuses on the mental connection between the two related creations, which in turn evokes echoes of Beauty and the Beast. I found the story with giant Viktor and dwarf Rinaldo somewhat better delivered than the Dr. Frankenstein/Eve plot, and it's a long time guessing where it's going. Sting does a terrible job (even laughing seems an extremely difficult task), and Beals (of Flashdance) also walks around looking like a walking corpse. Clancy Brown was the savior here as the simple-minded Viktor.

Not a masterpiece, you won't hear me say that, but I've seen top 250 films that disappointed me more than this one.
