Somewhere in the Moroccan countryside, four children scare each other for fun. In a haunted house, one of them mysteriously disappears. Twenty-five years later, the remaining friends run into their missing childhood friend again. However, it turns out that he is no longer the same person.

The passion and motivation cannot be denied to French-Moroccan Director Talal Selhami, because Achoura packs quite a punch. For someone who is only starting his third film with an 8-year gap since the previous project, this is quite admirable, but the end result is so full of all kinds of concepts and ideas that it mainly feels like a very messy event. For example, timelines are often changed and Selhami does not limit himself to a single horror concept. What is being performed looks enthusiastic and solid, but the high tempo prevents Achoura from being exciting. Moreover, no character manages to stand out from the other and Selhami has to turn to extreme backstories to give them some color. The somewhat static direction mainly lets the story and concept do the talking, which means it cannot exactly convey a strong directorial stamp, but the film is by no means tough. A more clear and less congested script can work wonders for a possible next project.

Has a really nice and spooky atmosphere for our intro, and now something unexpected is happening with our characters. We've an interesting development, and some rather bizarre behavior rearing is ugly head.
Oh, it is getting exciting now, and things are falling into place with our characters and their terrifying past. This has everything a Folk Horror fan could ever want in a film, and being a Foreign Film just makes it that much more special.
