Tommy and the Cool Mule plot

Tommy Braxton's father went to war and never returned, leaving his family without financial support. Thus, Tommy becomes the man in the house and he supports his mother and sister. Tommy's mother is forced to sell their horses. To please his mother, a certain Davis gives Tommy a mule. However, Tommy is bullied by Davis's son, who keeps challenging him to horse competitions. Imagine Tommy's surprise when he discovers that his donkey can talk. Will the magical animal help Tommy win the junior horse race?
