Sticks and Stones plot

"Three friends took a stand one summer and changed their lives forever."

Three thirteen-year-olds reach an age when they learn to stand up to the teasing of a local bully. Joey, Book and Mouth live for baseball. Joey is an excellent pitcher and Book a fine catcher, while Mouth dreams of becoming Joey's agent. The boys don't have a good home and the main problem is that their parents are hardly ever there for them. Still, they have a good summer until Hayes, an almost psychotic bully, starts tormenting them in increasingly vicious ways.
