Lilo & Stitch plot
"There's one in every family."
Lilo is a special 5-year-old girl from Hawaii who is not always understood by her surroundings. While her sister tries to keep the social worker at bay, all Lilo wants is someone to play with her. Just then, Stitch, an alien who can only destroy, crashes into Lilo's island. And an unlikely friendship begins to form.

After The Lion King, Lilo & Stitch is the second Disney animated film that is not based on an existing story. In the late 1990s, the cost of traditional 2D animated films became more and more expensive. Disney director Michael Eisner therefore proposed to produce a cheaper and smaller-scale animation film, as Disney once did with the 1941 film Dumbo. Lilo & Stitch also makes use of older animation techniques, such as the use of watercolor painted backgrounds. .
This film also makes limited use of computer animation. In terms of animation, Lilo & Stitch may not compete with films like Tarzan or Beauty and the Beast, but it is still a successful animation film.
Thanks to its setting in modern-day Hawaii, Lilo & Stitch is also quite different from the typical Disney films, which are mainly set in the past. The relationship between Lilo and Stitch is excellently portrayed and forms the heart of the film. The story may be somewhat predictable, but the humor and pace make up for it. The film was critically acclaimed and became a success in American cinemas, thanks in part to the funny trailers that preceded the film, in which the character Stitch pokes fun at various animation classics such as Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.

Lilo & Stitch is a little older than I thought. As a child I certainly never saw this - it was borderline since I was already 10 years old at the end of 2002. In any case, I might have seen him better then. Today this movie doesn't do much for me. Nasty characters - both human and alien. Quite repetitive too, which makes the wait for the morality long.
Furthermore, the voice work is good, but I'm not confused about the style. After the predominantly strong work from the 90s, this still feels like a fig after Easter and like a case of band work - which later films like Brother Bear etc. also suffered from.
