Horrible. The Garfield comics still make me smile every now and then, but none of that was left in this movie. Not fun, not funny, not interesting, poorly acted. And cgi Garfield doesn't look like either. Now that doesn't really seem like the goal, but this half-real, half-cartoonish version doesn't seem like anything either. Would have had good CGI as if that cat really existed. I thought for a moment whether the nice girl Love Hewitt could still provide some points, but actually that would be too much honor. 0.5*.

“There's nothing wrong with Garfield. He's just a happy, fat, lazy cat.”

“No need for a second opinion.”

Bill Murray saves this movie with just his voice. Because for the rest Garfield has little to offer, but Garfield with Murray's voice makes up for a lot. Some jokes work well too, and everything about Garfield and his animal friends makes for humorous situations. Not enough for a really successful comedy, but it's entertaining nonetheless.

Garfield is as we know him from the comic: fat, lazy, selfish, but where has the cynicism gone?? Skillfully removed to make it a movie for the little ones. They will enjoy it more. It's a shame because Bill Murray was of course a great match for Garfield.
