Northern Sweden in the mid-19th century. Seven children lose their parents and to avoid ending up in an orphanage for the poor, they embark on a long journey across the mountains in search of a better life. 12-year-old Ante has promised his mother to take care of his siblings. Their goat Gullspira provides milk, but surviving in the harsh conditions is difficult.
