Mary Sharron has not been very happy in her marriages, her first husband died in a forest fire and now she has problems with her second. They live in the wild natural landscape of the Canadian Northwest and the man wants to educate her son from the first marriage. When he forces the boy to watch him skin a deer, Mary becomes obsessed with protecting the boy from her husband, whom she now hates acutely.
