What We Do Next plot

Sixteen years ago, Elsa Mercado shot and killed the father who sexually assaulted her. Despite being a victim, she eventually ended up in prison. Now free, she hopes for help from the two people whose efforts to help her didn't quite go according to plan at the time. Sandy James, now New York's mayoral candidate, and Paul Fleming, a lawyer who often cuts corners, gave Elsa the money to help her out of her plight. Elsa used that money to buy the gun that killed her father. Despite Sandy and Paul's best intentions, the truth could end their careers once it comes to light.
