What Every Woman Knows plot
Maggie Wylie comes from a prominent Scottish family. Maggie is unable to find a suitable husband because she lacks beauty and charm. Her father and brothers, who cherish her, decide to look for a man for her and find one in the young, ambitious, but poor worker John Shand. Maggie's brothers make John Shand an offer: they will pay for his studies if he marries Maggie after graduation. John Shand agrees and marries Maggie after college. After marriage, John Shand quickly pursues a career in politics, a career he owes to Maggie, who works hard behind the scenes to build a man's career. Despite her best efforts, Maggie can't seem to get her husband to love her, and the trouble really kicks in when John falls in love with the beautiful Lady Sybil.
