West of Brooklyn plot

A Brooklyn street kid with a passion for beat poetry decides to move to Los Angeles, but his mother is on her deathbed. Sebi is a somewhat unusual and attentive Italo-American who makes a well-kept secret of his love for beat poetry. His friends have already packed up and moved to Los Angeles and when his mother dies, Sebi decides to join them. But after being in LA for a while, Sebi and his friends find they don't really belong. Wishing for a place he could call 'home', Sebi crosses paths with a variety of interesting personalities, including wealthy Beverly Hills girl Maddy as well as famed Bronx poet Gaetano D'Amico, who helps him find his courage and self-confidence to become the man he always wanted to be.
