West Indies plot
An allegorical musical set on only one set. This is a gigantic slave ship that symbolizes the triangular relationship between Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. The film jumps forward and backward through time to illustrate the parallels between slavery and contemporary migration. The film begins with Jean Aubert introducing sugar farming to the French Antilles. Then stories are told about the slave trade between the West Indies, Africa, Europe and America. Caribbean emigrants also have their say who dream of a better life in modern France.
