While her husband Joachim is permanently absent, the mother of three, Sophie, has a secret affair with hospital doctor Paul. He is married to his colleague Nele, but their marriage seems to have come to a dead end due to the death of their child. When Sophie has a breakdown after an overnight quickie with Paul in the hospital, Paul and Nele diagnose her with a brain tumor.
