Biography about Hildegard von Bingen, who is considered one of the most important and influential women of the Middle Ages. Raised at a young age in a monastery, she became a nun and later received various visions and healing powers that made her known far beyond the country's borders. She founded the first monastery open only to women, defying the will of the Church. The film also extensively sheds light on relationships with her twice-aged mentor Jutta von Sponheim and her own novice Richardis von Stade.
