The young ambitious Philippe Seigner comes to Paris to work for a large consultancy company. In the metro to La Défense, he saves single mother Eva from pushy men. Although Eva and Philippe are very different, they soon start a relationship. Meanwhile, Philippe's star is rising rapidly in the world of big money. As a promotion, he is sent to the province by his boss, a ruthless career man. Here he has to prepare the reorganization and takeover of a metal company. It becomes clear to Philippe that this will lead to mass layoffs, a fact that forces him to make a difficult choice, especially since his girlfriend unconditionally takes sides with the employees.
