Valiant Is the Word for Carrie plot

"You're going to fall in love with Carrie...a woman without money, reputation or friends, who fought for the happiness of two youngsters in as stirring a fight as you will witness on stage or screen or read about."

Former prostitute Carrie Snyder lives on the outskirts of the Louisiana town of Crebillon, whose residents despise her for her past. When Carrie befriends little Paul, whose mother is bedridden, his father George Darnley beats him and forbids him to hang out with Carrie. Despite this, Paul continues to see Carrie and trusts her like a mother. Finally, the townspeople drive Carrie out of town and she is forced to let Paul go for his own good. A few years later, Carrie reads that both of Paul's parents have died and that he has been adopted by his uncle. However, a friendly taxi driver from Crebillon tells Carrie that Paul was unhappy with his uncle and that he now lives alone on a houseboat.
