Distracted by the seductive Anna (Johanna Matz), married stationmaster Hudetz (Gerhard Riedmann) forgets to change a signal at a major mountain railway junction, causing a terrible accident. After an investigation, Anna makes a perjured statement, making it impossible for Hudetz to blame. Mrs. Hudetz (Heidemarie Hatheyer) is beaten and Hudetz marries the beautiful Anna, but he is tormented and consumed with remorse.
