Geography teacher Fernando [Manolo Solo] is devastated after his wife Melena [Kasia Kapcia] returns to Serbia unannounced. A meeting with Manolo [Xavi Mira] offers Fernando a chance to start a new life as a gardener for the Portuguese Amalia [Maria de Medeiros]. Fernando is uplifted by his friendship with Amalia, until he discovers that Melena has moved into the apartment he intended to sell. Upon closer inspection, it turns out to be the Serbian Olga [Branka Ktic], who, like Fernando, hopes to make a fresh start. A character study about the search for a (new) identity following a life-changing event. An entertaining character study with a relaxed cast. Katic, in particular, is endearing.

A film about leaving your life behind and being a new version of yourself. Ultimately, primarily a film about identity. Earlier this year, Romeria was a much stronger film with a somewhat related theme, but this wasn't bad either. Who are you really still when you claim to be someone other than you are? Can you let go of difficult things from your past when you take such a step?

The concept was certainly interesting, but unfortunately, the execution left something to be desired. Precisely in such a setting, more interaction between the characters and deeper character development would have been necessary.

Cinematically, the film is beautiful, with impressive visuals. But due to the rather one-dimensional characters, the story never really comes to life for me.

It's a shame, because there was so much more potential in this concept. During our screening at the Filmhuis, some visitors even left the theater after about an hour.

It is all the more special and sad that the protagonist passed away just a month ago.
