Debut by Canadian director Denis Villeneuve, one of the most interesting contemporary filmmakers in my opinion. Here he is not yet at full strength, but the film is definitely worth it, especially on a visual level. You could call the film a romantic comedy with some effort, but one with a lot of bizarre (and sometimes even gruesome) details. The two main characters are fine and the film continues to fascinate, despite the unbalanced tone.

Denis Villeneuve has a number of excellent films to his name, but his debut is only moderately appealing to me. The beautiful images, including of the imposing salt flats in Utah, cannot hide the fact that the story and the two main characters - despite the thorough performances - come across as rather wacko. In fact, I only watched the film to complete my overview of Villeneuve. Mission accomplished is all that can say in retrospect.

A somewhat bizarre film about two friends who specially go to the e desert to make a baby together. Friends with benefits, but then once, something like that. Just like the movie title, the logic is hard to find. A film from the beginning of Villeneuve's oeuvre. Fortunately, he has already made much better ones.

I found the interplay between the two protagonists especially fascinating enough to end the film with a satisfied feeling. A touch of humor here and there, with a raw unexpected ending that made no sense. By the way, I agree with two of the above: seen to further tick off the Villeneuve list. One more to go I think.

Beautiful images of the desert around Salt Lake City. Decent, but not really something I want to recommend.
