The Winning of Sally Temple plot

Sally Temple, an actress in eighteenth-century London, is loved by her neighbors on Pump Lane, who receive money from her to pay their oppressive landlord, the Duke of Chatto. When Lady Pamela, Lord Romsey's ward, marries three weeks before she comes of age, Sally is chosen to pose as the maiden when her guardian returns home after an absence of many years. When Lord Romsey sees Sally, he falls in love with her, unaware that she is not actually his ward.
