The Valiants of Virginia plot

At a dance, John Valiant Duel challenges Edward Sassoon to defend the honor of Virginian beauty Judith Fairfax. John promises Judith he won't risk his life, but when the smoke clears, Sassoon lies dead on the floor, and John is forced to flee north. Before leaving, John entrusts Major Bristow with delivering Judith an explanatory letter, but out of his own desire for the southern lady, Bristow pockets the letter.
