The Summer of Ben Tyler plot

1942 in the South of America. Temple Rayburn and his wife Celia meet young man Ben Tyler. He is slightly mentally handicapped and has nowhere to go. Besides, he's black. Temple and Celia feel sorry for the boy and take him in. However, this provokes angry reactions and outrage from the rest of the community. A white couple who takes in a black boy is not possible. An immediate campaign is therefore launched to have Ben expelled from the community.
